Welcome to Eugene Metropolitan Rotary Club! You will find Metro as the only "dinner club" in the city, providing a unique opportunity for working and/or retired individuals/couples to enjoy a wonderful evening of camaraderie, fine dining, stimulating programs, and opportunities for "service above self."
Mighty Metro is an active Rotary Club sponsoring local and international community service projects. At the District 5110 May 2008 Conference, Metro members were honored for their "Service Above Self" focus with recognition for International Service (water filter projects in Kenya, cataract clinics in India) as well as district-level Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) organization.
Additionally, several members received individual recognition for their service with the Rotary Foundation and for assisting other Rotary clubs with their projects.
For 2010-11, Rotary's theme is "Building Communities Bridging Continents." Whether it's sponsoring new projects like Cambodia Weaves or attending Strategic Vision workshops or providing polio vaccines for unprotected children in Nigeria, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan . . . Rotary will be there.
The bottom line is that we believe and embrace the ideals of Rotary, putting Service above Self.
I'm inviting you to come to a meeting. Metro Rotarians gather every Tuesday at 6 pm at Davis Restaurant. After reading Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea, I'm reminded that we can make a difference in our community, our state, and in the world . . . one project at a time.
I look forward to meeting, greeting and welcoming you to the world of Rotary. It all begins with a simple desire to help others. See you soon.
Yours in Rotary,
Ed Thompson
President
